Which Journals to use?

I would really like to give journalling a go. Does anyone have any advice on which ones work the best for Mixed Media? I like to use paints, stains and pastes when I do Mixed Media so I require a book that will take a pounding!!

Thanks in advance.

Kylie

I have a Strathmore mixed media ring bound journal that I use when in the U.S.

I got some cheap moleskin journals from Amazon, I like that they are small (A6) but the pages are thinner and you have to glue them together (in pairs) to make a decent surface ..

I also have a journal which I bought from The Works and which cost me a whole pound, it's unbranded but is about a 150gsm weight which really isn't bad

I think you should just buy something that feels right to you and work with it. Depending on which medium you plan to use in your journal you will probably need black or white gesso (I've never used black gesso) and then just get started. I have a box of all sorts scrounged from around the house, like wine corks, bottle tops - for making marks or inking - an old credit card is extremely useful. Most important tip? HAVE FUN

I have got a inexpensive notebook for me to try out. It works fine in the moment but I will buy a better one in the coming time to get even better results.

Yeah, I would like the heavier weights to hold all the inks and sprays etc. I have a little journal to try out but the pages curl up too much.

Please also post your journal pages in the Mixed Media section of the forum, Kathy. Would be a great start with your beautiful pages! xx

I can if any one could tell me how to get an image in my post. I tried but maybe I am a bit blond. I couldn't choose any image from my image folder.
Today I drive home from a holiday and can try it late afternoon.

If you use something like photobucket to file photos online then you CAN copy the IMG code and then, in full editor, select the insert image icon (small square with a mountain in) and then paste the code.

Alternatively (again in FULL EDITOR) select the ATTACHMENTS tab below, the ADD FILE which should open the photo programme on your PC, select the shrunken file you wish to add and double click on it. You should then see your photo number title appear, place your cursor where you want your photo to appear and then select PLACE INLINE (which should appear to the right of your photo number/title) and then select SUBMIT. Your photo SHOULD then appear in your post - good luck

Here's another page in my Crawford and Black sketch book journal .... 130gsm paper/gesso'd. I used fresco paints and Daler Rowney acrylic inks, stencils from Dylusions and Stamposaurus and images from Stampers Anonymous, Hampton Arts and Dylusions
